Under the Delhi Government’s rooftop solar policy, residential consumers receive both Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and additional state-level incentives administered through the Delhi Solar Energy Policy framework. Delhi provides an upfront state subsidy (top-up) along with a Generation-Based Incentive (GBI), making rooftop solar financially attractive. The central subsidy follows the slab structure of ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW (maximum ₹78,000), while Delhi offers an additional ₹10,000 per kW up to 3 kW. This means a 1 kW system can receive ₹40,000 total upfront subsidy (₹30,000 central + ₹10,000 state), a 2 kW system can receive ₹80,000 (₹60,000 central + ₹20,000 state), and a 3 kW system can receive ₹1,08,000 (₹78,000 central + ₹30,000 state). Beyond 3 kW, the state subsidy does not increase further.
In addition to the upfront subsidy, Delhi offers a Generation-Based Incentive (GBI) of ₹3 per unit for systems up to 3 kW, paid monthly for five years based on actual electricity generated. For example, if a 3 kW system generates around 360 units per month, the consumer can earn approximately ₹1,080 per month as incentive, totaling nearly ₹64,800 over five years. The subsidy and incentives are applicable only for residential, grid-connected rooftop systems installed through approved vendors and subject to DISCOM inspection and net-metering approval.
